Well, I meant to take care of this post a couple days ago but sometimes I get caught up in things or the internet doesn’t work for me when I want to do something. But nonetheless, here I am with a little recap of my first week at ABC Radio.

First couple days were boring to say the least. I basically just organzied a truck load of papers for differnet people in the sales department of ESPN Radio here in Dallas. Not a totally bad thing, I did get to see how they do their orders and sales contracts which isn’t totally a waste to know about. I had to basically recall my ABCs for the first two days. At least I will say the time went by pretty well while I was doing that stuff.

The next two days were better to finish the week. Thursday I was able to sit in during a radio show at ESPN Radio. It is their show that they place between Mike & Mike in the Mornings and the Dan Patrick Show. Here the show is known as the Dennis and Engel Show. Its pretty interesting. I sat in on their show for about the entire time. See how they handle callers and all sorts of things.

Next, I went with an on-air talent and he showed me how they write up their SportCenter Updates. Its pretty cool, it had me do one and put the music to it to see how it would sound. I will probably be working with this guy more as the summer continues in the mornings. Should be a good thing.

And on Friday, I went on location with the Dennis and Engel show to see how they do a live remote broadcast. Nothing I had never seen really, but it was better than sitting in an office all day on a Friday.

As you can see I have today off since it is Memorial Day. Can’t complain a bit about that.

I will try to update this as much as I can with what I do this summer. It shouldn’t be too hard since I have to do it anyways to get credit for this internship!

As you can guess it I am indeed in Texas now. I arrived this past Saturday evening. Honestly the drive down here wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it could have been. The weather certainly helped that out but even if it had rained any it would have been alright I believe. For some reason two days of driving midway across the country wasn’t bad. I was a bit shocked. I will say it was nice having no set time to get down here. Driving at my own pace and all was the way to be.

For all of you that thought it was a horribly long drive. Well the long part is correct. It is a long drive but there really isn’t anything bad about it that I can say. I get to do it again in a couple months. I still feel that stuff like that just doesn’t bother me and it may never will. I have my own ways of doing things alone like that I guess. It just doesn’t get to me like it does some people I guess. Plus having a little alone time never hurts I’ve found.

I interview with my internship Wednesday and should be starting up for a summer of work next week. I will keep everyone updated as good as I can.

As the title suggests, I am indeed home in Beckley, West Virginia. Sadly enough this is the first time since December that I have been here in the City of Champions. And I will be leaving in less than week to get down to Dallas.

So far I am starting top plan out my route to Dallas. It looks like for one night I will stay with my good friend Brett at his college in Williamsburg, Kentucky. It is about 40 minutes out of Knoxville, TN. It should be a two day treck but it could extend to a three day one just for the heck of it. I haven’t decided everything just yet and all. I know it is doable in two days depending on which way I go.

Also, I guess it is time to tell everyone that I have a new car to drive to Dallas. I now drive a 2006 Honda Civic LX. It is a big upgrade from what I used to drive. I must say I enjoy driving this new car a lot.

Well, that is all for now. I should have my semester grades this week sometime and then I may post them. It should be another 3.0 semester I think. Or at least that is what I am hoping for here. We will see.

Most of you who read this know I called soccer games this past fall for both the men and women’s teams here at WVU. Today, my broadcast partner and myself met with the people at MSN (the media folk who control most of the sports at school) to see if we could come back in the fall. Of course we are signed up again for them. They loved our work last year even though our main problems were techincal. Thankfully those tech issues seem to be handled for this coming season. That is a great thing really.

How many games will I be doing this fall is a question. Last year I didn’t work nearly as many as I wanted to due to school and other issues. Not to mention both the men and women were home for only 14 games. This year they are home for a combined 21 (it helps that the women’s coach is about to have a baby, so they will be home a lot). Yes, 21 homes games, plus the possible Big East tournament games and NCAA games. Which will be great!

Of course I will let you all know details on how to listen to those games when they come up.

It was nice to square away that issue before I leave for the summer and I believe the head of MSN was quite impressed about where I am working this summer. Now to finish an exam tomorrow and pack up. I should…should be in Beckley on Thursday sometime. We will see.

Last night I went out with a group of friends to see a movie and it ended up being United 93, the film about the plane that crashed into a field in PA on 9/11. I must say the timing of this film is interesting. Five years since the events happened may be too soon but I will say this film is worth seeing. It was tastefully done and there was nothing wrong about how it was shown on the big screen.

It was not Hollywood-ized, and it didn’t have any cheesy lines in it. It was intense and emotional, but definitely worth seeing in my opinion.

I just thought I would share that with you all. Some may find it a little political bashing but honestly I could not find any bad knocks on the government in this movie. Thankfully that side was left out. It was pretty much done by the books and how it happened on that day.

Give it an honest shot when you see it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see it but I am glad I did.

Yes, I know I haven’t posted on this page in a little while. Not that I have been lazy or busy…or both, I just haven’t honestly taken time to get on here and post anything meaningful. That is until tonight…

Why tonight? I am bored. I love to be honest as possible and that is why I am posting, I am bored as can be right now. I basically have no school work to do other than study for a test that is a week away. So now I am drinking a Frappucino from Starbucks (the bottle version, not the plastic cup full of goodness) and listening to random music.

Its nice to know that I really have nothing to do today and tonight though. Honestly since I pushed print on my sport psych manual today at work, I have felt great. It was a nice relief knowing that I am mostly done with this semester. And unlike most semesters at the end, I honestly cannot tell you what my fall schedule is like coming up next semester. Usually I can spit out everything about the next semester before it comes even down to the details like teacher and classroom location. But not this time. I guess its either I don’t care or just haven’t taken the chance to really give a crap. And too, I didn’t get every class I wanted this time around so maybe I was a little bummed about that. Who knows.

I do know that I am about a week away from being back in Beckley for the first time in uh…carry the one…four months? Yes. Four months. I couldn’t remember if it was three or four, and yes I was counting out loud. Its honestly tough to go home these days during the semester, I really wanted to a couple weekends ago but that didn’t happen thanks to some work that I had to do for my broadcasting class. I have a feeling this fall will be much of the same. Not to mention I will be doing soccer games again so I will be busy on most weekends. Not to mention again, that I will be covering the football team here more this fall for the radio station. So yeah, busy little fall coming up here. But I am looking foward to it.

I will get a nice week or so in Beckley once I am done here before I make my long trip to Texas. I believe it will be a 20 hour trip or so. So yeah, I will have to spend the night somewhere along the way. No big surprise there really. It shouldn’t be too shabby though. I know I am looking forward to it more and more.

But I do have one more week or so to go here. Tomorrow is another light day, and Friday I work and then have a party for my radio station. Should be a nice weekend as well I think. Well, I should be studying mostly this weekend.

Yeah, I think I am gonna go watch a movie now. I haven’t popped in a movie in here in a while come to think of it. I am sure I will be bored again real soon! haha

I don’t usually talk too much about my music likes or dislikes. Most of you that read this know what I listen to and all but from time to time you come across something you really enjoy that you believe everyone should take a gander and try it out for themselves. I kinda came across something like that in the past few months or so.

I’ve been listening to a songwriter named Mat Kearney for a little while here. I came across him through my XM radio on the Torch, the Christian Rock Station. I know some of you are thinking, great another christian rock band with all the praise and worship stuff in it. You say that isn’t for you and that is fine, but this guy is nothing like that. He is a Christian so that is all good and well but his songs are great. Try him out…seriously you may enjoy him. I can’t say I can match him with anyone else out there but maybe you all will be able to.

He just came out with a new cd today. I got a copy of it and I haven’t put it down yet.

Click here for Mat Kearney’s website.

Again, I don’t usually do this since some of you practically hate what I listen to but give this guy a try…an honest try. You may enjoy him like I do.

Real quick…before the day is over…Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy the day but remember why we celebrate it!

Yeah, I am honestly tired here. I haven’t put up anything on here in a while…the sports blog is updated a little more I will admit that. But, really other than the normal crap with school, there isn’t a whole lot going on.

Mainly right now I am squaring away a lot of stuff for this summer at this point. Financial aid, loans, what nots…that sort of thing really. Its a little stressful but at the same time it is exciting because I know what I will possibly be doing this summer down in Texas.

But in the mean time I have a lot of work to do. Two broadcasting projects, one manual to write for sport psych, a couple quizzes, and one econ test. Thankfully I only have that econ test on finals week and then I will be done. I will honestly be happy to get it all finished and get on to summer here. The time frame for everything is a little tight but it will make for an interesting time really.

I am also now the assissant sports director at U-92 now. I guess that is some news to pass along to everyone. So now I actually get paid to work there…which will come in handy down the road. Also, in the fall I will be one of the football producers, meaning I will sit in the press box for each home game and maybe a road game if possible. Do interviews, go to practices and press conferences…the whole nine yards. It should be a good team to cover this year, seeing how some are picking them to be in the top five or even top three to begin the year. Should be exciting. I know I am jazzed up for it this fall with Marshall coming into town. As much as I hate the fact that we play them I cannot wait for it.

I don’t even know if that title makes sense…it just fit when it popped into my head with the way the weather is around here. Its 70 one day and then that night it may snow and its 30. Absolutly weird if you ask me.

I finally made it to a move last weekend for the first time in months. I was trying to figure out when the last one was that I saw and I couldn’t, because it had been that long. I don’t remember going to one for the most part of this spring semester. But anyways, I got to see "Inside Man"…it was a great heist movie. You ask any guy out there, they would love to be apart of a heist. Heist movies, if done right are always great to watch in my opinion and this one was right up there. I think some may have said it was a bit long or something like that but it was to an extent a bit long but the story was unquie enough that the time issue didn’t bother me. Clive Owen is a great actor and add Denzel Washington and you should have a solid movie. It was worth the money to see. Check it out if you get the chance to.

Its looking more and more like Dallas will be a reality for me this summer. I spoke again with ABC Radio about the interview and all and was curious if they would want me to start right away and they will. Sounds like a pretty promising deal to me. I still need to get in touch with FC Dallas and try to boil up some competition between the two if I can. I’d still love to work for FCD but at least I know I have something for the summer. Something at this time last year I couldn’t say at all. It is a nice feeling.

Still lots of school left here even though it is getting down to the wire. Hopefully I can pull out some good grades this semester. Time will tell.
