From time to time, I receive gifts or items from apparel companies or even teams in Major League Soccer. My almost seven years of covering soccer has come with some perks to say the least. I’ve been fortunate enough to get free jerseys, clothes, soccer cleats and more.

But yesterday may have been the weirdest item I’ve ever gotten in the mail. I got home from work to see a large box on my front porch that read ‘fragile’ and ‘do not lay flat’ on it. It was a large box too. I thought, maybe Becca ordered something and forgot to tell me. Or maybe worse, I ordered something and forgot all about it.

No, it was the picture above. A large frame from the soccer team in Portland. See, each year I vote in the media site of the end of the year awards for MLS. This frame was a way of lobbying for my vote for the various awards. I’ve had this happen before in years past. One team gave a plastic mug, others have given thumb drives with highlights of the players in it. Some teams are just more creative than others.

The frame is pretty cool though. It will be a nice addition to the home office one day when I get around to hanging it up.

Pearl Cup in Richardson is a fun spot that Becca and I enjoy. Friday night we went out after dinner to enjoy a cup of joe. Tonight I enjoyed a Toasted Marshmallow Latte while Becca had a Cafe Mocha.

I always love how this place makes their drinks. I swear if they were on my way to work, I’d probably stop here most mornings. Thankfully for my bank account they are not.

I really want to get a group of friends together, have some drinks and have one of these epic lip sync battles. The idea just sounds so amazing, why hasn’t it been done before?

I love going to Oktoberfest each year now. Addison, a town just down the road from me in Richardson has one of the countries best festivals each year.

This year Becca and I went with some good friends of ours that we haven’t hung out with in months. Aaron and Sarah met us last night to enjoy some good beer, good food (roasted corn on the cob whhhhat?) and good times.

And yes we got photo bombed in our lone group shot. Ha

Seriously. Every year they do it to me. A new product that makes me want to go out and give them all my money. For the last few months I have been reading the rumors of the iPhone 5s and 5c and thought “nah, I don’t need an upgrade” but after today’s announcement I am more than torn about it. Between the better hardware inside the 5s than my current 5 and the fingerprint scanner, I feel more inclined to upgrade.

Will I actually do it later this month? Doubtful. Not because of money but just because I don’t want to wait in line, pre-order and all of that jazz. I don’t need a new phone that bad anyways.

So I’ll be left drooling over the new phone when I see friends or co-workers with it but I won’t be joining the fun until the iPhone 6 comes out next year. Or whatever name they give it.

I have to say, I can’t believe time has moved this quickly. Four years ago I said “I do” to my lovely bride Becca. Time has passed so quickly for the two of us but I couldn’t be happier.

Yesterday I came to the realization, I have officially paid off one of my student loans. It was the smaller of the two loans but there was still a good sense of pride in being able to pay that off in a few short years after graduating from school.

The other loan will be another happy post for another day – hopefully soon too if I can manage it.

I meant to post more photos about this but at the end of July I made a day trip to Kansas City for the MLS All-Star Game. It was basically my mini-vacation for the summer. I drove up early in the morning on July 31, stayed in KC that night and drove back the next day.

Both days were long in the drive but it was well worth it in the end to get to see Sporting Park in Kansas City. Not to mention, I got to drive through Oklahoma and Kansas for the first time in my life. Nothing special about the drive in either state but it wasn’t all bad on the seven and a half hour drive.

Nothing better than some good beer and tacos. The Torchy’s Tacos near me finally put Revolver on tap with their Blood & Honey. So good!

Alright. It has been ages since I touched this space. Ages. A year almost. For reasons I really have no way of explaining.

But I’ve updated this little space over the last day. Slapped a new coat of paint on it and tried to rearrange some things to make it look a little more updated.

I’m not planning on blogging like crazy on this space like I once tried. I have too many other projects going to attempt to even do a daily/weekly thought or two on here anyways. Maybe once life settles down a hair – if it ever does – I’ll get more consistent on here about writing about my life and things going on in it.

I have thought about opening up a new blog from time to time to do TV reviews of some of my favorite shows but again that takes time and effort that I just lack at the moment. My main passion still remains in soccer writing. I have two large spaces to do that at the moment, one is still WVHooligan and the other is BigDSoccer. The latter of the two I actually get paid consistently for, which is nice even if it is just a small stipend.

The revamp around this space was to show off some of my work both personally and professionally. A digital portfolio, a record of my stuff online. It is still a work in progress as in the last version of this site I didn’t really finish it all up like I intended to. It is summer so hopefully the longer hours of sun light will allow me to finish up some things.
