New Fall TV…so far

I’m a TV junkie. Always have been and likely always will be. This week started the new fall season for some networks and like most years I give a few new shows a try to see if they are worth adding into the weekly DVR schedule.

First up last night was a new Fox show called Dads staring Seth Green. Now I always tell people with any new show that I watch the pilot and at least try to give the show one or two episodes after that to convince me if it is good enough, funny enough or whatever. This show however won’t be going down that road. In fact, Becca and I couldn’t even make it through the second commercial break without stopping the recording and deleting it.

Why? It was one bad dad joke after the other. The dialog was too predictable even for a pilot and was just uncreative. I’ll be shocked to see this one last any more than a month on Fox. Here is a pretty amusing recap of it.

After that was Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

This one had some serious potential in my brain before hand since it had former SNL funny-man Andy Samberg. I figured this show would go one of two ways with the pilot, either it would be ridiculously stupid to the point where it wasn’t funny or it would be just funny enough to keep me entertained for 22 minutes. Thankfully it did the latter of the two.

I certainly recommend checking it out next Tuesday. Samberg is just funny enough to carry the show while the rest of the cast built around him is solid. I know the show runners of Parks and Recreation are doing this one, which is why I have a good feeling it will last a few years if done correctly.

World’s Tallest Invisible Skyscraper?

Say whhhaat?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have always had a certainly love for architecture. In another life I probably would have become one instead of a writer. I have always love staring off at city skylines and building design.

A Korean architect wants to build the first invisible skyscraper. Yeah. Invisible. The building will use an LED facade and cameras on the back to project the surroundings behind the building onto its front. When turned on, the system will make the outlines of the tower indiscernible.

Architects behind the world’s first invisible skyscraper were granted a permit to begin construction on the 1,476-foot building, dubbed Tower Infinity, according to a press release.

I have to say, I want to see this one in action when it is all said and done. The idea of it looks pretty spectacular.

Modern Saved By The Bell

I grew up with Saved by the Bell. It was arguably my favorite TV show during my youth, right up there with the likes of Full House, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Family Matters.

So seeing some ‘modern’ Saved by the Bell ideas out there, I immediately perked up when I saw this video. Some lovely facts from a slightly inebriated Zack Morris. A.C. Slater was gay, Screech was a robot and Jesse was a lesbian. Okay.

The best is the reaction of Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s face on the thought of a reunion.

We Are Going To Brazil!

I usually don’t mix soccer on this space too much but I’m too excited not to at this point.

The US Men’s national team is going to Brazil in 2014! Last night the US clinched a berth in the 2014 World Cup with a big 2-0 win over rivals Mexico.

I’m very excited for the US clinching a spot for the 7th straight time.

Oh Apple

Seriously. Every year they do it to me. A new product that makes me want to go out and give them all my money. For the last few months I have been reading the rumors of the iPhone 5s and 5c and thought “nah, I don’t need an upgrade” but after today’s announcement I am more than torn about it. Between the better hardware inside the 5s than my current 5 and the fingerprint scanner, I feel more inclined to upgrade.

Will I actually do it later this month? Doubtful. Not because of money but just because I don’t want to wait in line, pre-order and all of that jazz. I don’t need a new phone that bad anyways.

So I’ll be left drooling over the new phone when I see friends or co-workers with it but I won’t be joining the fun until the iPhone 6 comes out next year. Or whatever name they give it.

HBO With Another Impressive Looking Show

I love me some good TV. Who doesn’t though? HBO has some of my favorite shows with The Newsroom and VEEP, and it looks like I’ll have to add another one to the list with True Detectives coming out next year starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Happy 4 Years

I have to say, I can’t believe time has moved this quickly. Four years ago I said “I do” to my lovely bride Becca. Time has passed so quickly for the two of us but I couldn’t be happier.

So I’m trying more new things

What can I say. I’m never truly satisfied with how things look on a website that I do. That much is true of this space as I’ve made yet another drastic change today on how it all looks here. I’ve been toying the idea of moving to a new theme and went for it today.

This new theme has a ton of bells and whistles, so there may still be some things out of place here and there. I’ll get to them eventually.

The first big challenge is figuring out how I want the home page to layout. Do I want a big banner at the top? Or just boxes with my work and latest posts? All tough calls if you ask me.

So pardon my dust around here.

One down, one to go

Yesterday I came to the realization, I have officially paid off one of my student loans. It was the smaller of the two loans but there was still a good sense of pride in being able to pay that off in a few short years after graduating from school.

The other loan will be another happy post for another day – hopefully soon too if I can manage it.

Kansas City Trip

I meant to post more photos about this but at the end of July I made a day trip to Kansas City for the MLS All-Star Game. It was basically my mini-vacation for the summer. I drove up early in the morning on July 31, stayed in KC that night and drove back the next day.

Both days were long in the drive but it was well worth it in the end to get to see Sporting Park in Kansas City. Not to mention, I got to drive through Oklahoma and Kansas for the first time in my life. Nothing special about the drive in either state but it wasn’t all bad on the seven and a half hour drive.
